OUR STORY
Our Story
Before there was a store, there was rhythm. In 1969, Baba Onochie played alongside Fela Kuti, helping spark the Afrobeat movement that carried Africa’s voice to the world. Today, with his son Emeka, that same rhythm lives on in Rhythms of the Village, a home for culture, art, and community.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
MORE THAN A STORE
We are a cultural hub, a classroom, and a home for creativity and service.
For years, ROTV has hosted drum and dance classes, taught Nigerian languages, offered fresh fruit Saturdays, and supported small artisans and makers through silk-screen and embroidery programs.
Our mission is simple:
To preserve and share African heritage through community, creativity, and education.
The Legacy Continues
When the Altadena fires struck in 2025, our building was lost, but not our rhythm.
The community rallied, and together we continue to rebuild through festivals, workshops, and events that remind us who we are.
Rhythms of the Village is not just surviving. It’s evolving, teaching, and creating new ways to bring culture to the world.
